The Emergence of Wellness kulture and a Brief Survey of Its Varieties

Andrea Hézső-Böröcz

Health tourism has been playing an increasingly significant role these days in world tourism.  In the category of health thourism it is wellness tourism that has developed the most dynamically both worldwide and also in Hungary. Hungary has been and hopefully it will be in the future, too, a significant player in the market of health tourism.

The definition of wellness is as follows: A new approach to healthy lifestyles, a way of deliberately chosen way of life, in which, in addition to the harmonious development of fitness traits, a special emphasis is given to the creation of the balance between body, spirit and mind. Wellness is identical with quality life, the integration of the beneficial components of optimal state of health (as opposed to illness).

„Wellness includes all individually tailored programmes, occasionally, therapies and treatments, which are aimed at preserving good health. These programmes are offered to guests who usually spend their holidays or leisure time  in wellness hotels, with the aim of taking a rest after work and everyday stresss; they intend  to recharge their batteries and find their peace of  mind.  Parts of certain wellness programmes, includig exercising, healthy diets, swimming, fitness, massage, may be integrated into everyday activities as well, but most often people take advantage of these services in the form of a course of cures during a 4-5-day, or, a weekly stay at a wellness hotel.

Swimming and other water-related activities (water aerobics, water fitness, underwater massage), sauna (traditional and infrasaunas), the different kinds of massage (medical  and Thai massage) and some yoga types are the basic forms of wellness treatments.  (Source: wikipédia)
