Sport tourism activities can be classified by the venue of the activity.  

• outdoor or indoor activities
• natural surroundings (ski slopes, natural waters, forests), or, artificial surroundings (e.g.. stadiums, sport grounds, laps etc.)
• Land, water and air sports;
• Winter and summer sports.
• By equipment  :
• Some sports need equipment, some do not  
• Technical and non-technical sports.

By investment:

• Cheap and expensive.

By types of sport there are many variations  including bicycle sport, equestrian sport, water sports, nature walking, skiing. Gáldi (2011) emphasizes the importance of fitness tourism and training tourism as well.
