The main features of the technique

When making the throw within a designated area from a stationary position or throwing it requires speed with great strength. Approach speed is needed in case of shot-put, soft ball throw and grenade throwing and javelin; discus is kept high and relaxed, trailing behind the hips and thrown from a swinging motion.

General features of throwing

In athletic competitions throwing events include javelin, discus, shot-put and hammer throw and at schools soft ball throwing is also practiced. These events require athletes to demonstrate power, strength, rhythm and sense of balance.

Factors affecting throwing

One factor is projectile motion

The followings are also important

  • flying speed
  • height
  • optimal angle of projection

The most important task of coach and athlete is to develop the muzzle velocity of flying:

  • accelerating power should be increased
  • ensuring favourable direction power force
  • increasing the muzzle velocity of  the object

The parameter that has a great effect on how far an athlete can throw the object is to ensure power increase within the shortest time.

The parameters of increasing muzzle velocity of the object are:

  • the increase of power
  • the increase of time of acceleration forces
  • maintenance of acceleration forces

The degree of acceleration forces depend on the athletes’ body positions
