The medicine ball
5-6 years
- In a kneeling position, a double-handed high or front throw forward.
- Lying on their stomach, pupils form a cross. The pupils facing each other throw the ball at the same or at different pace.
- See the previous exercise: now, with rolling the ball
- See the previous exercise, but now the ball keeps moving to the side. One pupil needs to catch up to the other.
- The above exercises can be carried out while sitting on the floor, facing each other.
- In a sitting position, throwing the ball with one then the other hand.
- A sitting position, feet on the floor. The ball is held in the shoulder pit. The trunk twists so that the elbow touches the mat. From this starting position, with raising of the trunk, the ball is thrown out.
- A sitting position, legs apart, the ball is between the ankles. The legs lift up and close over the ball, then return back to the starting position.
- A sitting position, straight legs, the ball is next to the ankle. Both legs are raised and lowered on the other side of the ball and then back again. The torso turns to the opposite of the legs, to help the movement.
- Standing over the ball, legs spread apart. Jumping up, clicking the heels, than back to the starting position.
- Jumping on one leg, the other leg is continuously dribbling the ball.
- The balls are placed in the middle of the room; there is one ball less than the number of players. On a whistle signal, the continuous slow running starts around the room. On a signal, everybody runs to the center of the rooms and takes out a ball. The pupil who remains without a ball, drops out. In each round, the number of balls is reduced by one.
- Rolling turns forward and backward, with the medicine ball in one hand.
- The ball is between the ankles. Lifting both legs, the pupils have to pass the ball to the next player.
- Jumping from one squatting position to the other, starching the knees, ejecting the ball from the front, two-handed.
- Lifting the knees one after the other and circular movements (figure eight) round the thighs.
- Walking or running for a designated distance. The ball is on the palm of one of the hands, the arm mid-low at the side. The task can be performed with the arm on the other side.
- The pupils stand in pairs and together hold the medicine ball (one of them at the bottom or the top, the other on the sides). The goal: to pull the partner through the designated line.
- In pairs, the pupils are squatting, facing each other from a small distance. Continuously passing the ball, they try to make the partner loose the equilibrium position.
