Thinking questions

  • What can be the advantages of case studies in your practice?
  • What case study methods do you know and which of them have you used effectively?
  • Have you ever used this method to facilitate, monitor and asses teaching/learning?
  • What skills should EFL teachers have to be able to design case study?

Case studies are a form of problem-based learning, where you present a situation that needs a resolution. A typical business case study is a detailed account, or story, of what happened in a particular school, kindergarten or project over a set period of time.

  • a scenario with supporting data
  • a statement of an issue
  • the strategies to collect data
  • method of evaluation
  • sharing the outcomes with colleagues or using the data to redesign lessons
