3.1. Extending the topic: project activities.

Activites in project-based learning can involve, but are not limited to:

Asking and/or refining questions
Debating ideas
Making predictions
Designing plans and experiments
Collecting and analyzing data
Drawing conclusions
Communicating ideas and findings to others
Asking new questions
Creating artifacts.

3.2. Group work

With your group members select a school project you know and try to give examples of the above project activities.

Feedback

A sample project: Organizing a Thanksgiving celebration in class.

Asking and/or refining questions: What holiday is Thanksgiving? When is it celebrated? How is it celebrated in the U.S.?

Debating ideas: Does it have any relevance in other (non-American) contexts?

Making predictions. Organizing a party, preparing and eating traditional American food.

Designing plans and experiments: groups are formed, tasks identified, time is allocated to activities etc. Research: find recipes, write invitations etc.

Collecting and analyzing data: internet research. Interview Americans using social media.

Drawing conclusions: finalizing plans, making pumpkin pies, staging a short quiz, preparing class decoration.

Communicating ideas and findings to others: Invitations sent to teachers, parents.

Asking new questions: What other American holidays are there? What Hungarian holiday(s) could we present to foreigners?

Creating artifacts: Invitation cards, quiz sheets, class decoration (posters), recipe booklet, baking pie.
