Games enhancing the instruction of passes and catching the ball

Chasing the ball

The members of the teams, except for one player, form a circle by holding hands; then, disengaging their hands, they step back and thus form a bigger circle. The chosen player stays outside the circle behind the player holding the ball. At a signal, the ball is passed around by the members of the circle, and the one outside the circle runs around it in the direction of the ball. If the ball returns to the starting position first, the members of the circle win the game; if the runner returns first, he is the winner.

Rules of the game

  1. The ball must be passed from hand to hand in a given direction; no one can be left out.
  2. Until the passes are inaccurate and the catching is also problematic, the one chasing the ball should cover a longer distance; he should start from 2 or 3 positions behind.

Rushing the ball

The members of the teams form a circle, standing about 2 metres from each other. The balls are held by two players opposite each other diagonally. At a signal, the balls are passed around in a given direction. The aim is that one ball catches up the other one. We can change the direction of standing (turning inside or outside), the type of pass or the form of placement (kneeling, sitting, etc.). It can also be played with more than two balls.

Rules of the game

The ball must be passed from hand to hand in a given direction; no one can be left out.

  1. The ball must be passed from hand to hand in a given direction; no one can be left out.
  2. If the ball is dropped by someone, or if it rolls away, that player must fetch it and play it on.

Rushing the ball in a circle with two teams

The members of the teams form a circle, standing about 2 metres from each other. Every other player is given a ribbon, thus we make two groups. The balls are started by two players from different teams, standing opposite each other diagonally. At a signal, both balls are passed in the same direction, and the aim is that the ball of either team catches up that of the other one. The winner is the team that can do this on more occasions.

Rules of the game

  1. The ball must be passed from hand to hand in a given direction; no one can be left out.
  2. If the ball is dropped by someone, or if it rolls away, that player must fetch it and play it on.
  3. The passes of the opponent must not be hindered or caught.

Rushing the ball in double circles with two teams

Two teams are formed. The members of one of the teams are marked by ribbons, and they form a circle. Opposite each player an opponent without a ribbon takes place, forming an inner circle. Then, with every other pair, the two players change places. Thus the members of both teams form a criss-cross figure. The balls are started by players taking place at transverse points of the circles of different teams. At a signal, both balls advance in the same direction in a criss-cross line, and the aim is that the ball of one of the teams catches up with that of the other. The winner is the team that can do this on more occasions.

Rules of the game

  1. The balls must be passed from hand to hand in a given direction; no one can be left out.
  2. If the ball is dropped by someone, or if it rolls away, that player must fetch it and play it on.
  3. The passes of the opponent must not be hindered or caught.

Catchers and throwing

The teams form a circle, and the appointed players take place inside the circle. The members of the circle throw the ball to each other, so that the “catcher” cannot touch it. The catcher can move freely inside the circle and tries to touch the ball that is rolling or held in hand. If he succeeds, the catcher changes places with the player that threw the ball or held it in his hand when it was touched. The winner is the player who was not a catcher. In case of a large number of players, it can be played with more catchers (2 or 3), and perhaps also with more than one ball.

Rules of the game:

  1. The ball can be passed only in the given, predetermined way of throwing.
  2. The players can fake with the ball in hand, but the ball must be thrown within 3 seconds.
  3. The catcher must not leave the circle, and must not touch the ball outside the circle.

Point scorer

We mark the playing area and form the teams; the members of one of the teams are marked by ribbons. The players take place scattered in the playing area. The referee throws in the ball, and the team that manage to get it try to keep it in their possession, so that in the meantime they perform as many passes as possible. In the meantime the opponent team try to get the ball, so that they can perform the passes. Every regular pass is worth one point, and the point scoring is continuous. If the team lose the ball, their points scored so far are kept, so when they get the ball again, they continue from that. The winner is the team that can score more points during the game.

Rules of the game:

  1. The players can move with the ball in hand according to the rules of handball. Without the ball they can move freely in the whole playing area.
  2. Ball handling can also be applied according to the rules of handball. In some cases, ball handling can be forbidden.
  3. Getting the ball can also be done according to the rules of handball.
  4. If the ball leaves the playing area, it can be played again with a throw in.
