The rules of positions

To play the game according to the rules, it is necessary to apply the rule of rotation. After gaining the right to serve, students perform a so-called rotation; they change their position on the court. The roles of students are defined by their actual positions. Rotation provides an opportunity to change the positions, and the serve must be performed accordingly. The court is divided into two by the attack line, 3 meters from the net, thus we can speak of front row and back row positions.

Accordingly, the players of the front row positions are:

  • right corner (2)
  • front center (3)
  • left corner (4)

They move between the attack line and the center line, these deep movements are needed to prepare and finish the attacks. They perform defenses near the neat and blocks. The front center (3) player is responsible for organizing the offensive play, as he gets the second contact, which he passes to the hitters at the sides mostly by setting. For the sets, he positions near the net, so that the shoulder line is perpendicular to it. The balls he sets are precise; he prepares the performance of the hits. The right and left corner players are the finishing players. At defense also the finishing players are in front and try to prevent the attack by blocking. With beginning students he also participates in the reception of the serve.

Back row players:

  • right corner (1)
  • front center (6)
  • left corner (5)

They move between the attack line and the end line. Their role in defense is very important, as the reception of the serves is in this area. In addition, they perform contacts in the field, possibly sets. The player in the right corner performs the serve if the team gains possession of the serve. In defense the back row player plays a role (6), who receives the serve. From here, a hit or an offensive contact is seldom performed.
