Student Olympics

The competition is held in collaboration of the Hungarian School Sport Federation and the Hungarian Handball Federation.

The objective of the competition

The objective is to get school children to like handball and to provide an opportunity for the young people who get to know the sport to play and compete. To make contacts among schools, and to make sport friendships among the young. To deepen the spirit of cooperation and fair play through the instruction of the sport. To provide an opportunity for the best players to participate in a national competition, so that they can successfully represent their school at a student competition      

Events

Team competitions for boys and girls of the age groups III, IV, V and VI

The organisation of the competitions

  • County/ Budapest competitions: according to the rules of the organising student sport federations.
  • National qualifications:
    Depending on the number of teams entering, groups are formed, or (according to the rules of cups) the organisation is in a system of home and away matches. The Hungarian Sport Federation’s National Cup and the Student Olympic Committee’s Handball Sub-Committee of the Hungarian Sport Federation decide on the qualification group(s), the method of organisation, the number of team(s) qualifying from the group(s); and, based on the written applications, appoints the organiser(s).
  • National semi-finals:
    For boys and girls alike, a one-day competition in 7 places, with the participation of 4 teams each.
  • National finals:
    The 7 girl and boy teams having qualified from the national semi-finals, along with the girl and boy champion teams of the county organising the national finals, altogether 8 teams each. Groups “A” and “B” are formed at the technical meeting, through casting lots. In the groups the teams decide on the positions by playing with every other team; then the semi-finals and the matches deciding on the final positions follow.
