The tactics of serve reception

The defensive team’s first contact with the ball is the reception of the serve, which defines the outcome of the given rally. The well prepared reception provides primarily a proper defense (the opponent cannot score a point directly from the serve); on the other hand, it can organize offensive play, so that a point can be scored.

  1. The receiving player’s move toward the ball, approaching the ball, should be only into two directions. Beginning students are inexperienced to move into every direction, their speed is inadequate.
  2. Precise performance of serve reception, which enhances playing the second contact. The “target” is the area of about 2 square meters right next to the net, at the center line of the court.
  3. Students must be able to receive the ball in an appropriate serve reception formation. In the serve reception as many players should participate as possible, so that immediately rearranging with the received ball, they can properly plan the attack.
