Jumping into water

Jumps into water mean getting into water from different heights, diving, staying under water and coming up to the surface again.  When teaching it first learners jump into water from the stairs of the pool, then the height is gradually increased  This exercise tests bravery. Jumps are performed upon a signal given by the instructor.

Learners can jump

  • Individually, in pairs, in groups,
  • In hip-high or neck-high water
  • From a standing or a running position;
  • They may jump ahead, sideways, backwards;
  • Push off with one foot or with two feet;
  • With half a turn or a full turn.
  • Using a device

When jumping into water from the side of the pool the following issues need to be taken into acount:

  • the depth of the water is minimally chest level;
  • first the simple tasks need to be performed then the tasks gradually become more difficult.
  • The exercises need to be performed upon the signal of the instructor thus the risk of accidents may be eliminated.

Exercises:

  • Slide into the water in a sitting position
  • Push off from a crouching position
  • Stepping into the water from different positions (front, back, sideways)
  • Push off with both feet from the side of the pool
  • Take several steps and then it is followed by a jump
  • Front jump, knees pulled up, hitting the water surface with the feet.
  • Front jump with a variety of arm and leg positions.
