The definition of fitness

The definition of fitness is as follows: it is a psychological and physical condition which is aimed at living a quality life.

„Fitness is a lifestyle which emphasizes good physical condition, attractive appearance, as well as the improvement of the performance of one’s heart, lungs and blood circulation. The difference between fitness and wellness is that fitness has more active, sports elements in it. In the opinion of  Alexandra Béres, a fitness world champion of the mid-1990s, „Fitness primarily means the optimal operational harmony of  body and mind, social adaptability, the optimal performance of everyday activities.   • healthy lifestyle – considering the significance of a proper diet

Areas of a healthy way of life:

  • environment (home, cleanliness, hygiene)
  • mental health ( motivation, will power)
  • psychological health (orientation, attitudes )
  • social health (socialization, financial situation )
  • physical fitness and health ( endurance, power, speed, muscular power, body composition, movement coordination, balance)

The impact of regular fitness training on the body:

  • improved general condition and physical condition
  • improved body posture
  • more aesthetic appearance,
  • easier and lighter movement,
  • faster regeneration after work or exercise
  • more self-confidence,
  • better life
  • reduced stress level

Rules of planning a fitness training to be considered at all times:

  • individual characteristics  
  • current level of fitness,
  • current health status,
  • the individual’s goals, motivation and the experiences of former training programmes

The principles of planning training programmes

  1. data collection (using a questionnaire the individual’s general health condition and level of fitness are surveyed)           
  2. determining the goal (what goal people have when starting a training programme)
  3. training for endurance and stamina,
  4. improvement of power, endurance and stamina
  5. improvement of flexibility
  6. active relaxation– absolutely necessary,
  7. healthy clients’ special needs including weight loss, pregnancy etc.
  8. success and endurance – motivation at all times

Health status survey:

  1. Screening – the aim of screening is getting information about risk factors and the justification of endurance test
  2. Screening methods  - questionnaire / anamnesis
    • interview
    • medical examination ( in state of rest and in state of work )
    • fitness tests

Risk factors:

  • high blood pressure,
  • overweight,
  • smoking,
  • being in a permanent state of stress,
  • physical inactivity,
  • abnormal ECG in state of rest
  • family history of coronary diseases
